The Churnet Valley Model Railway Department was formed in August 1999 by members of the Churnet Valley Railway (CVR), a standard gauge preservation group based in Cheddleton, Staffordshire, who have an interest in railway modelling.

The CVMRD displays the N gauge layout, Milldale, owned by the North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) (NSRC). Sadly, the layout Lowehill & Foxt that we used to feature on this website has been either stolen or destroyed, it is not known which. It is quite saddening that this has occurred as recently we were passed a copy of Model Railway Constructor, in which the layout featured back in January 1983. We hope to bring you a copy of this at a later time.

Our layouts are :
Milldale- is based in Derbyshire, It's a fictitious line between the Tissington Trail route and the Cauldon Lowe line of the North Staffordshire Railway. The layout was built as exhibition model by Peter Lowe and Colin Plant, both members of the Macclesfield Model Railway Group back in the early 1980's. The layout is now maintained by the C.V.M.R.D. and can be seen on tour at exhibitions around the country.

Maun Valley- is a guest layout, owned by Derek Gelsthorpe who has supported the CVMRD in various ways and in return his layout is featured here. Maun Valley was constructed during 2004 whilst Derek underwent a house move. It's first exhibition was at the CVRMD\NSRC exhibitionin Sept 2004 and is available for bookings. Now extended by another 2 feet, it is a very pleasing and relaxing double oval and fiddle yards. See the web page for more details.

Oakamoor- Our new OO DCC layout based on the place with the same name! Taking ideas from the CVRs Southern Terminus sand sidings. Set in the mid 1980s it will feature BR blue diesels with the odd private green one knocking about.
